In the aquarium where you can see fish from around the world

Aquariums are unique places where visitors can see fish and other marine life from all over the world.
They present experiences far removed from the everyday that can be enjoyed by everyone, young and old. Our valves are used in aquariums worldwide.

Georgia Aquarium

World's Largest Aquarium「Georgia Aquarium」

Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta Georgia (USA) near Centennial Olympic Park opened on November 23rd 2005 as the World's Largest Aquarium and one of the leading amusement spots, with 8 million gallons (2,268 Liters) of fresh and marine water, and more aquatic animals than any other aquarium. You will find fish from around the world, including whale sharks and leopard rays. The Aquarium has an area of a submerged floating acrylic tunnel that you can walk through. You will feel like a scuba diver in an endless blue sea.

Multiple Process Line

The exterior of the building is designed to look like a giant ship breaking through a wave. As guests enter the huge atrium inside the building, they will be led into the facility by "A Wall of Fish" guiding them inside. The process system inside the building looks like arteries carrying blood to the human body. This means there are so many pipelines and valves making this process work.
The product is being used in the pipelines for circulating fresh and seawater to also feed the main habitat as a heart of aquarium. It is quite impressive that the installed valve size is from 6mm (1/4") up to 900mm (36"), and a couple of hundred 350mm (14") Butterfly Valves.

Excellent Product Technical Support

For many years, ASAHI/AMERICA, INC has been helping many Aquarium Life Support people technically, with professional representation and product quality. We feel that this is one of the main reasons Georgia Aquarium selected to use our products in their Aquarium.
In autumn 2003, Georgia Aquarium personnel visited our factory to check the product quality, manufacturing process, and technical design of our product. At that time we were going to show them an actual large diameter butterfly valve installation. A typhoon had passed through southern Japan, submerging in a pit the large diameter butterfly valve. In order for Georgia Aquarium to view this installation, Miyazaki Sales Branch personnel vacuumed out the water so there was access. Their efforts were greatly appreciated as it allowed Georgia Aquarium personnel a nice view of the installation.

We can do it

As our product has been installed in many aquariums, we feel we can assist in aquatic life support operations, as ASAHI AV, "Asahi" is recognized as the preferred product worldwide for Aquarium applications.
The brand of "ASAHI AV" is preferred solution for the quality, size range, and prior installations in the industry, technical support and the ability to customize the product. This project was filled with challenges: They included customizing the product, and meeting critical time deadlines. The hard efforts of all involved from us and Asahi/America resulted in great appreciation from the Georgia Aquarium.

Unique Aquarium Kinosaki Marine World "Dive"

Diving Adventure

The Kinosaki Marine World Aquarium "Dive" does not quite fit the mold of a stereotypical aquarium.
"Dive" just opened on April 18, 2006. Among its many attractions are pools where you can swim with the dolphins and an area where you can touch and interact with shoal-dwelling organisms. The main attraction among these is the "Diving Adventure", where you can experience the sensation of diving into the sea. It consists of a donut-shaped water tank, 13 meters in diameter, surrounding a 6-meter visitor stage with acrylic partitions. When the seawater is drained, the stage descends 2.5 meters and creates the sensation of diving into the ocean. Dolphins swim in the water tank around the stage while fantastic underwater images are projected on the wall in 360 degrees. "Dive" uses our butterfly valves in the water supply and drain pipes for this unique facility.

Two Key Points

Swimming with the dolphins

The key points in the material selection process were past performance and the speed at which the valves could open and close. The planning and designing of "Dive" began approximately five years ago.
At first, when the aquarium was discussing whether to use metallic or plastic valves, some voiced serious reservations about the use of plastic.
However, our valve was ultimately selected after considering the long and successful track record our products have had in aquariums. Our butterfly valve was selected from out of many types of valves because of the speed at which it could open and close. During the "Diving Adventure" experience, 70 tons of seawater in the stage tank needed to be drained and filled in only three minutes. We resolved this issue by installing a speed controller that allowed the valve speed to be adjusted. Because such a large volume of seawater must be drained and filled, another important feature of the installation is the large-bore water supply and drainage pipe. The butterfly valve can easily handle large-bore pipes. It's also lighter than metal and entirely safe from seawater corrosion. These features fit the facility's needs perfectly and were the key to the product's selection.
