Foundry Materials and Functional ResinsLow Tar Resin Coated Sand (RCS)

Introducing the low tar RCS, slashing tar generation from the casting process

Overview

When an organic binder is used, casts generate tar and gas from the thermal decomposition of the organic binder at the time of casting. In particular, there has been a trend recently towards more intensive cooling of the metal mold for aluminum directional solidification. That leads to tar adhesion onto the metal mold and to the clogging of vent holes, resulting in an increase in gas defects and misruns of molten metal.
To address these issues, We have invented this new low tar RCS.
It is characterized by a very significant reduction in tar generation at the time of casting. This is our original RCS created by evolving our tar decomposition technology.

Forms

  • Sand

Applications

  • General aluminum casting and others, cast steel

Features

  • The amount of tar attached onto metal molds considerably reduced the frequency of metal mold cleaning.
  • Making clogging of vent holes of metal molds less likely, reducing gas defects and misruns of molten metal.
  • A very high aluminum disintegration property in our Super AV Sand specifications
  • Removing deficiency in disintegration property due to tar at narrow parts and corners of the jacket and directly underneath the vent holes
  • It also lowers gas and odor generation at the time of forming and casting.
